Calumet Theatre
340 Sixth Street, Calumet, MI 49913
The Calumet Theatre, currently a Keweenaw National Historical Park, was built in 1898 as an opportunity to serve the community at the center of the copper mining boom. The Theatre formally opened in 1900 with a production of “The Highwaymen,” and through the early years featured many well-known in the industry. It operated as a movie theatre from the 1920s through the 1950s. The Calumet Theatre has been a national historic landmark since 1971 and is a heritage site of the Keweenaw National Historic Park. Still serving its original function, the Theatre continues to host events each year and offers tours.
