Eagle Harbor Lighthouse
670 Lighthouse Rd, Eagle Harbor, MI 49950
Eagle Harbor Lighthouse was built in 1851 to provide navigation and guidance to ships present during the copper mining boom. The tower was illuminated with a Fresnel lens and oil lamp until 1871 when it was replaced by a red brick structure and the addition of a fog signal in 1895. The lighthouse was maintained by 22 keepers and transitioned to automatic in 1980. Ownership of the Eagle Harbor light station was transferred to the Keweenaw National Historical Society in 1999. The US Coast Guard continues to operate the light as an active navigational aid, however, the tower is not open for visitors. The lighthouse is open as a museum for site visitors.
