Estivant Pines
Burma Rd, Copper Harbor, MI 49918
Part of Michigan’s Nature Association, Estivant Pines was sold to Calumet and Hecla Mining Company in 1947 from part of Edward Estivant’s 2,400 acre tract of land. It was sold again in 1968 to Universal Oil to help in logging efforts. The Michigan Nature Association worked hard to preserve 200 acres of Estivant Pines from Universal Oil in 1973 and three additional efforts have expanded the Estivant Pines Nature Sanctuary to 570.5 acres. The sanctuary is home to one of the last old-growth white pine stands in Michigan, standing more than 125 feet tall and going back 300 years. The trail system running through the sanctuary can be done on a loop and completed as a 2.5 mile hike.
