Copper Harbor Lighthouse
9689 Woodland Rd, Mohawk, MI 49950
During the copper mining boom, ship traffic around Copper Harbor was heavy to carry copper, immigrants, and supplies. Due to the increased traffic, government officials deemed it necessary to build a lighthouse, which was approved in 1847 and constructed in 1848 using stone masonry that was dismantled and repurposed for the replacement lighthouse that was built in 1866, prior to the addition of the Copper Harbor Front and Rear Range Lights. In 1974, the lighthouse was added as a Michigan historic site and was placed on the national register of historic places in 2012. The lighthouse is not open for tours or public access.
