Phoenix Church
US-41, Phoenix, MI
The Phoenix Church was originally St. Mary’s Church which was constructed in 1858, serving the mining community of Cliff Mines. When services were discontinued in 1899, the church was reassembled in Phoenix and reopened as the Church of the Assumption until 1957 when the final service was held. The Phoenix Church was taken over by the Keweenaw County Historical Society in 1985 with extensive repair and restoration. The church is open from mid-June to early October as a museum and is still used for weddings and memorial services.
